Continuing our collaboration with Metaxa, as a part of the holiday Instagram campaign,
we created a Metaxa gingerbread house with 6 mini animations of opening doors and 3 animated scenes of drinks inside the house.

We had a great time doing this, and the work filled us with a festive spirit
– we hope to awaken it in you too as you explore this project :)

Process

One of the main challenges in the project was arranging 6 cameras to capture videos in a 9:16 aspect ratio, suitable for cropping to 1:1 proportions to create a cohesive image when stitched together on an Instagram feed.

We designed a house based on a 3x2 modulus and placed a camera in the center of each modulus. We used 6 perspective cameras with very high field of view values (almost orthographic), and gradually reduced these values as we approached the house to achieve a 50 mm FOV. To ensure accurate scaling for both the exterior (a 1-meter gingerbread house) and the interior (real room scale), we built and rendered these scenes separately (using Takes), combining them during post-production.

In this scene, we utilized Cinema 4D's fire simulation to bring realism to the fireplace. Employing a field, we colored the vertex map to control the blending of non-burning and glowing wood materials before and after the fire ignition.
